The Cake Bake Shop Coming to Disney’s BoardWalk in 2023
Your Disney vacation is about to get even sweeter. The Cake Bake Shop is opening its first location outside of Indiana, and it will be right here in Orlando. The beloved bakery and restaurant will begin serving indulgent baked goods and French café classics at Disney’s BoardWalk later this year.
Here’s everything you need to know about The Cake Bake Shop, its acclaimed menu, and its famous fans.
An Orlando Bakery With Sweet Treats for Everyone
The Cake Bake Shop will greet visitors with dainty décor and stunning displays of cookies, pies, French pastries, and rich slices of cake clothed in Swiss meringue buttercream.
Order some sweets to go, or head to the elegant dining room for a chic feast. Like its two Indianapolis locations, The Cake Bake Shop’s Walt Disney World outpost will serve café fare like quiche, soups, salads, and savory sandwiches. In addition to mouthwatering food, guests can enjoy piping-hot coffee, wine, beer, and craft cocktails and mocktails.
Many of the Cake Bake Shop’s cakes and sandwiches can be made gluten free.
On weekdays, each Cake Bake Shop location offers afternoon tea, complete with scones and finger sandwiches.
This midday tradition delights diners of all ages. Guests 21+ can order a glass of Champagne with their meal. Meanwhile, young visitors can partake in a kid-friendly version of tea time. The children’s afternoon tea menu includes PB&J and lunchmeat sandwiches, plus decadent hot cocoa.
Reservations are required for afternoon tea and are recommended for all occasions.
The Cake Bake Shop will also have two private event spaces, perfect for dinner parties, bridal showers, and other celebrations.
The Cake Bake Shop: Serving Up Smiles Since 2014
The Cake Bake Shop’s owner and founder, Gwendolyn Rogers, fell in love with baking at a young age. The kitchen provided a sweet escape from her tumultuous childhood.
After graduating from high school, Rogers moved to California. She planned to pursue a career in photography, but ultimately became a casting director and modeling agent. Through her industry connections, she met her husband, Indianapolis native and American Pie 2 director J.B. Rogers. When the couple moved to Indiana to be closer to J.B.’s family, Gwendolyn saw a chance to start a new career.
She spent nearly a decade selling baked goods out of her house. Then, in 2014, she opened The Cake Bake Shop’s first brick-and-mortar location in Indy’s hip Broad Ripple Village.
Her business was such a hit that, in 2019, she opened a second location in the upscale suburb of Carmel, IN.
From Local Gem to National Treasure
While Gwendolyn Rogers has long left Hollywood, big-time celebrities still know her name.
The Cake Bake Shop has found many famous fans, who have helped spread the word about the bakery across the U.S.
Stars who have fallen in love with Rogers’ baked goods include Shia LaBeouf, Diane Keaton, Al Roker, and Elton John. Adding to Rogers’ culinary clout are endorsements from food TV stars like Rachael Ray, In Garten, and Emeril Lagasse. And in 2018, Oprah Winfrey raved about The Cake Bake Shop in O, The Oprah Magazine.
As The Cake Bake Shop became nationally known, Rogers started shipping frozen 6” and 8” cakes across the U.S., to individuals and retailers like Costco and Williams-Sonoma.
But the Cake Bake Shop’s soon-to-be three storefronts remain the only way to savor a single slice of Rogers’ cakes.
